I really enjoyed your article! I am a graduate student and just received my first fluency client in my school practicum placement. I am nervous about working with this client because I am only halfway through my only fluency class and have not ever worked with a person who stutters. However, I am very excited and grateful to have this oppurtunity in graduate school. This article made me feel a lot more comfortable, and the point about being a good clinician and using the same skills used with other communication disorders is very helpful. I have not met or worked with this client yet, but I have received her goal sheet and therapy strategies. All of her goals are “to increase fluency” in different areas. Like you stated in your article, fluency is not a bad thing, but there are many other areas we have to consider when working with a child who stutters. Do you have any advice for me to bring up these other areas with my supervisor to give this client a more complete and beneficial experience in therapy?
