Thanks so much for writing! I am happy to hear you are pursuing a career in the public schools! We need strong, dedicated SLPs to take up the charge for more effective treatment of students who stutter! As a school clinician, I will tell you that, "YES," it is possible to successfully target these issues in a group setting. That being said, the key (and my "advice to a future clinician) is to BE FLEXIBLE! There are times when I need some "alone time" with one of my students. I do this by getting the child early for group or having him/her stay late... If need be, I use a few moments of my planning period to get the needed time in...There are many "creative solutions" when one is flexible. For the most part, though, we are masters at treating a variety of communication disorders in the same group. Everyone knows what they are there for, and we go on about our business. Hint: I will say I tend to group my kids who stutter with others who stutter OR with the "language groups." Hope this is helpful!
