Hi, I am participating in a speech-language pathology master's program. This made me think about how important it is for SLPs to not just focus on the direct therapy of producing smooth or fluent speech, but we play many different roles to these children. We have to educate peers, parents, teachers, and counsel our stutterers. We have to allow them to express how their disfluencies make them feel. Relaxation techniques are a must for helping them with their anxiety and physical tension. The SLP plays many roles with the stutterer, a counselor, therapist and an educator. Thank you for the excellent reminders and information!
