Katie, I am also a graduate student and I have some clincal experience with fluency school-age children in the school setting. When you do have your first school-age child that is a fluency case, you will see how much these kids need you to help them. You can be that positive influence for them and build them up, because I know many have low self-esteem, anxiety and fears of speaking. So listen to your professor that is optimistic, because you will be able to help these children more than you know! Good Luck in your profession!
