Hello Mia. You are right on target! It is true that most people do not understand (or have enough experience with) stuttering to "get it right" when interacting with someone who stutters. Though well-intentioned, actions like completing sentences or giving 'quick-fix" advice do not help people who stutter. We cannot assume that teachers know more than the general public (they are not given this information in their training), and peers just don't know how to respond sometimes. So, it is our role to make certain our students advocate for themselves by educating those around them! Thanks for participating and good luck in your future as a SLP!
