I really, really enjoyed reading this article! I am currently a 2nd year graduate student in speech-language pathology and am currently in a stuttering class. I also took a stuttering class 2 summers ago that used your textbook for the class - The Source for Stuttering: Ages 7-18. I am currently working with my first fluency client - a 10 year old. Your book has been my bible this semester as I work with her. I have to admit I was very nervous and very unsure about working with someone who stutters at the beginning of the semester. At times I still don't feel very comfortable at all and I can see how some SLPs don't feel confident in treating PWS. Stuttering to me definitely feels more challenging than working with a child with just an artic problem. As far as progress goes, I feel like it is hard to measure at times and that you can't measure it like you would with someone who can't say his/her /r/. My question for you is: How do you work with a school-age child who is not aware of his/her stuttering, doesn't want to be aware, doesn't care that he/she stutters, and doesn't appear to be invested in therapy at all? Thank you for your time!
