Hi Stacey - Yes, it's certainly something that needs to be handled carefully. If the child and family have a PLAN, then this can ease the transition. And, it's important for parents to understand the importance of providing treatment AT THE RIGHT TIME. We use a variety of analogies to highlight this...for example: Academics: Parents may want their children to learn calculus, but no matter how eager they are for the children to do this, the children won't be able to do it when they're in the 3rd grade, and no amount of coaxing will get them there. They're just not ready. Sports: Parents may get very excited when their children can slam dunk a basketball or do a summersault off the diving board...but, if they try to push them to do it too soon, then the child will fail. The parents understand the importance of waiting until the time is right in these other areas...we have to help them understand the importance of waiting 'til the time is write in stuttering, too. And, in fact, we're not just waiting - we're preparing and doing background work and moving toward readiness, so when the time comes, we'll be there. Make sense? Thx S
