Lisa, Having been a school SLP working with middle school age students who stutter, one of the most difficult things that I encountered with my students (2 of them who occasionally attended with each other, individually at other times and with other kids as well) was balancing their fluency treatment with the inevitable school work that they also had to and wanted to work on. So yes, it was great having "real world" content but I found that having that caused them to want to drift into their more pressing concern (the school work) and away from our practice or discussions of their fluency. Having a time schedule at the start of the sessions was fairly helpful.
