Joseph, I really enjoyed reading your personal experience with cluttering. I am a person who stutters, so can relate to the feelings you describe of isolation, and being horrifed to hear your own speech. I never liked hearing I sounded when leaving a message on someone's voicemail. I would also sometimes go to ridiculous lengths to re-record my personal greetings on my own voice mail about 25 times until I was convinved there was no tell-tale trace of stuttering. I think its so important to get the word out about cluttering. It is different than stuttering. I am sure a lot of people don't know that, and may lump the two together. Intersting that you conclude with a statement about perfect fluency being a goal of yours. I don't wish that for myself. I have participated in some therapy where fluency was constantly emphasized. To me, it felt like I had failed if I couldn't achieve perfect fluency. I hope you don't run into this as you seek your quest for perfect fluency. Maybe what you can focus on instead is being happy with Joseph, and continously striving for self-improvement, instead of trying to reach the lofty goal of perfection. No one has perfect fluency, right? Anyway, great job - personal stories are so helpful. And sharing what therapy worked and didn't - great. That should be very useful to speech professionals. Thanks again! --Pam
