Most people don't understand cluttering, and a lot of people don't recognize it. A lot of people have confused my cluttering for nervousness, which bugs me. I didn't realize there was anything wrong with my speech until I was about 25-27. I'm sure people treated me differently because of my speech, but I didn't notice, or make the connection. So, I didn't feel singled out or stigmatized at all because of my cluttering earlier on. But now that I know more about it, I do notice that some people do stigmatize me. I sometimes say that everybody ends up liking me, just with some people it takes a long time. I think what subconsciously goes on in their heads is something like: 1) He has "nervous" speech, 2) There must be something wrong with him, 3) Hmm, after interacting with him for a while I can't see anything wrong with him, 4) I guess that's just the way he talks, and he seems pretty cool.
