Michelle, I thought I knew the answer to that question, that is, clutterers get more severe when they stop monitoring (and presumably don't care/think about what anyone thinks). David certainly mentions that, but he also mentions other factors such as fatigue. But reading the Yahoo group that Joseph Dewey started (see papers below), I have learned that many who clutter also experience anxiety, withdrawal, fear, and so on. The focus of the fears may differ from those who stutter, but the testimonies are often dramatic in the amount of suffering, isolation, and pain these people have experienced. Reading those stories has been very revealing to me. Ken
