Dear Shari, You raise some good issues here. Honestly, since I don't work in the schools and deal regularly with such issues of severity determinants for caseload inclusion, I don't know the answer to your question. My problem with a spectrum disorder is that it is not clear where normal ends and where disorder starts. Of course, some of the same difficulties occur when we talk only about severity. Is "very mild" still a problem? Still these are two different issues. A person can have a very mild articulation disorder--so mild that treatment may not be recommended, but still manifest a misarticulation. But if one were on an articulatory spectrum, maybe one could be essentially without a disorder and in the range of normal. Maybe Kathy will weigh in on your question about IEP eligibility. Ken
