Hi, Ryan - Thank you for your question. We currently do not know of a causal link between AP skills and cluttering and I would be hesitant to make such an association without more research. When a clutterer comes to therapy it is regarding specific symptoms he/she is experiencing that is making communication difficult for him/her. My focus would be on treating cluttering symptoms first. I would not discount the role of APD as I proceed, however. I would certainly follow any recommendations made by the diagnosing audiologist and provide added testing if there appears to be a language or phonological component associated with the cluttering. Further intervention would be based on these findings. It would be important to address these contributing factors if they are affecting progress in a negative way. Therapy could take longer when auditory-linguistic deficits are also present; however, by working on one area, we may indirectly make a difference in others. Thanks again for your interest in my paper. Best wishes, Carla.
