This article addresses an excellent point: much of stuttering and/or cluttering actually lies below the surface in the individual. By reading some of your stories, I understand that in some way your disorders have affected your life decisions. Some of you indicated that you struggled with not being able to say what you wanted to say because of a fear of social punishment. I think that this can actually be more devastating to people than the disorder itself. I appreciate the strength and the confidence it has taken for each of you to discuss the disorders and become an advocator for stuttering/cluttering. I could go on and on about how great it is that you have decided to not let these disorders affect your quality of life, life choices, and sense of self-worth! Along these same lines, I noticed that some of you mentioned that you had your stuttering/cluttering “under control” for a period of time and then you relapsed. In regards to this I just want to say that success should not be determined by your “fluency” or lack of stuttering/cluttering, but rather your ability to communicate effectively with others and your sense of empowerment and self-confidence. Thank you again!
