Chase just turned 10 on April 5th. He doesn't have many friends outside of school that he hangs out with. He and his younger sister generally play as a group with two other families in our cul de sac. Although his teacher assures me that he is doing fine socially both in the classroom and at recess I'm still concerned. During our spring conference his teacher did mention that the other boys are really into sports and it would be great if Chase became more involved in them as well. We've tried time and time again but he's just not interested and I won't force him. Chase will generally not engage in anything that he feels may cause embarrassment or lead to failure. He gravitates to individual sports and activities (karate, clarinet, bass, fishing, Legos, Wii, computer games, making stop motion videos). Chase definately realizes that he is a bit different, but for now appears to be comfortable in his skin. I do worry about what the teenage years will bring though. I'm very interested in what life is like socially for your son if you wouldn't mind sharing.
