Another great paper from the parent's perspective. What a journey. How blessed your son is to have you fighting for him. I work in a school and the current budget cuts are scary. To think that more will be expected with less at the expense of kids who will flounder without the right teachers and support. There are so many children with special needs, and IEPs often aren't even looked at more than twice a year at those mandatory meetings. You are so right about right relationship, advocacy, and finding support and a SLP that knows the individual needs of the child and that child's unique gifts and strengths. I know my own life as a stutterer would have been so different if my teachers had known what to do early on. Its not the same, but your point is - the right support and "knowing" really makes a difference. I really loved your iceberg analogy too. That is often used with stutterers too, that our stuttering is only 10% of the issue, the 90% lies beneath. Chase sounds like he is on a truly great path and your sharing of the journey will touch many lives.
