I would practice going really fast when talking, go really slow, and talk with pauses. Model out loud sentences such as "I'm taking my time talking so I can say just what I want" or "I just paused so you can listen to me better." Something like this. depends upon the age of the child. I also use the car analogy- when you speed, you get a ticket. going too fast leads to car accidents. you can have the student practice varying degrees of speeding so he can feel the difference. Try this. Hope it helps.
