I also tend to side more with Klaas and David on this issue. I believe that cluttering is a speech symptom that may be part of a syndrome. However, on a few occasions, cluttering can exist in isolation. A few years ago, I was lucky enough to write a chapter on a very insightful text editted by Rhea Paul. It is called "Exploring the Speech-Language Connection". One of the conclusions is that speech can impact language; and/or language can impact speech. I think this may be the case with cluttering. People who clutter can have impairments in language.....many do, but not all people who clutter have impaired language. In the case of language disorders. Some people who have langauge disorders do clutter (but a small percentage), but most do not! Therefore, I tend to see cluttering as speech disorder first. The argument above is logical to me, but I recognize that it may not sway everyone. It is simply my opinion based upon years of clinical and theoretical study. Thanks for such a thought provoking question! John Tetnowski
