I have long been aware that I had a monotone voice, was difficult to hear and spoke garbled. I had already identified that it had to do with an overbearing mother (whom I now believe to have Borderline Personality Disorder) who asked me intellectual questions I didn't know the answer to. Growing up between Sweden and the USA, I figured part of my speech problems had to do with that. When I lived in Thailand I started using easier words with less syllables, speaking slower and more clearly. That helped a lot though when I returned to the USA my speech seemed overly simple. I am glad to have found out yesterday that it is actually something that has a name. Also that I found out during this conference is interesting. Today my stepmom told me that my voice is so monotone that it hurts her ears and my friends are tired of saying what due to my mumbling, trailing off sentences and low volume. What is the next step? Thanks, Leila
