I am a graduating senior in Speech Pathology and Audiology. Throughout our coursework there have been a few things that have been strongly stressed; simplicity in therapy, giving the client something with which they can succeed, and a long-term goal of carryover are among those that first come to mind. It seems so obvious that making things simple is a great way to help children to overcome their communication deficits. Your article is a wonderful representation of this fact. Also, by allowing the children to choose their therapy goals, they start out motivated and are more likely to succeed. The “Two Thumbs Up!” idea is one that will be easy to use in a therapy setting and also simple enough for a child to understand while simultaneously helping them through their disorders. Thank you for this simple and useful strategy!
