Unfortunately, Im not sitting in on the sessions. But the mom and slp review after each session. I would say the consistency of working with the slp has helped greatly overall. Seeing the slp once a week helps him remember his managing techniques. My son was seeing a slp weekly for about 2yrs now. He just recently stopped about a month ago, due to financial issues (amongst other things). Its is noticable now that my son is slipping back into his old ways and not using his management techniques. The SpeechEasy device we are trying to aquire now has a noticable difference with his thought process and speech rate. Self awareness and being able to self correct are very important exercises. Speech rate exercises has also helped. The Speecheasy device seems to help in all these areas. The following is from the SLP - The use of phrasing and Delayed Auditory feedback using the SpeechEasy device in the sessions has worked to attend to his speech and self correct. The use of a metronome along with reading aloud has been effective. Non verbal cues agreed upon by Jon and the therapists have improved his ability to self monitor his speech rate with greater accuracy; I will sometimes touch my chin when he is using a good rate and this positive cue helps him to stay at a good speech rate. The use of over articulation and producing effort for the ending sounds in words has also been effective in slowing his rate without telling him to slow down all the time. This technique has been more effective than a negative comment.
