As a future speech-language pathologist, it is disappointing to me to hear how few of the SLPs you encountered were adequately educated about cluttering. It is even more disheartening to learn of the lack of awareness of cluttering both within the medical world and society in general. I am thankful that here at West Virginia University, our professor has incorporated information about cluttering into our lectures and even encouraged us to check out this Cluttering Conference so that we may become even more informed. By sharing your story, you are certainly doing your part to educate others about cluttering. As a student, it has helped to open my eyes to all that parents must go through when trying to find a diagnosis and appropriate treatment for their child. Hearing personal accounts such as this makes me even more motivated to learn all that I can about cluttering and other speech, language and fluency disorders so that I can become the clinician that “gives hugs instead of handshakes.” Best of Luck!
