Due to various life experiances, I had multiple versions of presentations - from one-to-small group to one-to-200 face-to face to 50 states webseminar on various topics - from Language (Russian, Ukrainian, English) to Business (Letters of Credit for Bankers) to Special Education issues. The common denominator of all of them was: If I had enough time to practice my presentation to the point of memorization, any changes to the plan (time, light, participants, form of materials, etc.)in many cases were causing multiple disfluencies. Plus, I noticed that memorizing takes away the excitement (vs agitation) about the presentation, which, in my opinion, is one of the components which can work both ways for a PWC: it can increase the disfluencies, but, on the other hand, it can provide for a listeners' positive feedback, thus, assisting PWC. The other form of presentation -rough plan with a lot of supplemental materials, PowerPoint - works better for me: it provides limited structure with the certain level of flexibility. And, sometimes, I briefly communicate my cluttering( and stuttering)limitations to my listeners. It is amazing, how much rappoire it might to build and how much easier it becomes (sometimes with their positive input) to control cluttering.
