Dear Megan and Helene, thanks for the question on attention. It is not a matter of attentional problems. What is going on in cluttering is that their is limited attetnion capacity in every person. When most of the attention capacity is needed to produce language not enough is left to monitor speech (rate). Although it is known that cluttering can co-occur with ADD, there is no evidence of attentional problems in persons with cluttering.
