Dear Emily, You ased if there has been done research why PWC have trouble controlling their speed. Thanks for that question. Per ALm suggested that a location of this could be found in basa ganglia circuits. Recent fMRI research by van Zaalen et al., learnt that indeed PWC exhibit inhibition problems from basal ganglia systems, but one study is not enough to conclude on this. Another reason why we do assume basal ganglia inhibitory problems to be present is because some medicine influencing this system can have positive results on the speech of PWC. We need a lot more research in this area in the future to make final conclusions.
