I think it's great that you had a stuttering course at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Unfortunately, there are not many universities that have professors who specialize in stuttering, thus, many students do not get much exposure to stuttering. I agree that many programs do not seem to advocate getting doctorates-- especially more clinically-minded programs. But, I do think that ASHA is currently trying to encourage people more due to the shortage. After attending the summit (when six of us doctoral students met), I realized how great it would have been to have had doctoral student mentors prior to starting my program. I guess you live and learn, but I feel I've gained some good insight re: doctoral work that I can now pass on to new doctoral students.
