Hello from a graduate student. Very interesting article. I believe that an effective clinician would be able to challenge their client without being abusive. It is inevitable that the client will be uncomfortable in most challenging situations. The clinician could talk them through each situation to see if the client feels that it would be "torture". The client needs to know the purpose and the potential positive impact of that particular task.
