This has been a very interesting article and has made me really think about how clinicians may approach desensitization in different ways. Do you think there could be a list of guidelines that could eliminate any misuse of power in desensitization? I think some of the problems may be in how one interprets the guidlines. These issues have to do with behaviors, which can leave a large amount of room for misinterpretations. For example, "good intentions" can be interpreted in many ways.

Another question regarding this topic is, do you think clinicians who are PWS are able to follow a different set of guidlines easier than those clinicians who do not stutter? For example, Van Riper was a PWS, and his practice of desensitization was looked at in "awe and reverence" by his clients. If Van Riper was not a PWS, do you think his practice would be given the same amount of respect?
