Hi Cynthia!

Thanks you so much for your energetic responses and so many wonderful questions!

I do not use guided imagery at the beginning of every session. I usually try to check in with the client to "put my finger on their pulse", and hear and see how they are doing. I try to interview them about some insights they may have had and directions they may have discovered they want to take, but often it is me leading the way with ideas, especially earlier on in the process. Usually after kids have been introduced to the process of guided imagery, they can't wait to get started. It's such a good feeling to be naturally fluent, and letting your ideas roll! And wow, those journeys can be so much fun and very empowering. I have used it with one youngster under 10, and he loved the journeys and still seems to really benefit from them (he's 10 now). Using the hexagon concept is harder with the younger ages, abstract concepts like perceptions are hard to grasp. But, it's still worth introducing the ideas, and using it as a reference now and then.

So far the only criticism I have received seems to be silence from my colleagues.

Nobody has been concerned about the guided imagery practice so far, audiotapes are sold over the counter and used for this purpose everyday by people from all walks of life.

I have had a client change his perceptions about himself and still be surprised that he stutters, but I beleive he is stuttering with less frequency and with fewer behaviors associated with his speech. I think it's like John Harrison said, he stopped stuttering (on the inside) long before he stopped stuttering (on the outside). The body/unconscious mind typically takes a while to catch up with the conscious mind. These are patterned behaviors that have been building for years, it will take time to tear down the structure.

Other resources, try your public library: Herbert Benson, the Relaxation Response (and other books/tapes) Harvard professor, researcher, wonderful information and very easy to grasp.

The Alexander Method book/tape (very hard to read, and even understand on tape, but the tape is easier than the book)

Christine Page taught me the Soul Directed Approach, check out her website (hmm, I guess it's christinepage.com)

Any Body-Mind, Soul information will probably be in alignment with this approach.

You might want to check out information on the Chakra System, that's fairly ancient in the East, but new to us Westerners.

What other questions do you have? Marjorie :)
