Hi Brynn!

I have not had clients without the feelings of shame, fear, etc., I think it's probably because it's the feelings that pushes a person into therapy. Russ sounds quite content with his speech the way it is. I have a dear friend who stutters quite openly, but would never consider therapy because his stuttering doesn't bother him.

If someone did come to me without the feelings you described, but still wanting to change their speech, I would go through an interview process and find out where on the Stuttering Web they may be stuck. It could be just a physiological response of sorts, I suppose, but I would bet that there's also a lack of listening to one's intuition and some belief system and perceptual system "stuckness" going on. Also, I would want to know if this person stutters in their dreams and during guided imagery.

Marjorie
