Hi Jane,

Touch question. We both love Ben and our daughter with all our hearts. We both have different ideas. Makes it interesting to say the least. My husband felt that my son should be left alone, and not made aware of his stuttering. Since HE is the one who knows about stuttering from his life, I had to respect that. As much as I hate to admit it, he's usually right about most things LOL! But I also collected opinions from many other people who stutter, and got the impression that feeling bad about stuttering was what made their stuttering worse... SO when reading Barry's excellent book, I came upon the chapter dealing with Lidcombe and Van Riper, the flashing light went off!

My husband was aware of what I was doing, with Barry, and voiced no objections, but no didn't participate in the therapy. Since Lidcombe is such a positive experience for the child, and it wakes them feel so good about talking, and fearless, it certainly wouldn't be causing negative feelings for Ben about his speech. Which was the concern.

And of course we are both very happy with the outcome. Did that answer your question?

Nancy
