Thanks for this question. At the Univ. of Vermont speech and language clinic, there are three of us who work with stuttering - myself, Julie Reville, and Melissa Bruce. Julie and Melissa started using Lidcombe about 3 years ago and I learned it from them. We have never had such effective stuttering therapy for preschoolers. With every preschooler, we use Lidcombe, but when a parent first contacts me and it will be a few weeks before i can see the child, I will send the family the SFA tape for parents of preschoolers (help for families) to start out. then when they can come in, I have found the parent always willing and able to deliver the therapist. Some families take a little more time than others because of the difficulty they may have keeping good data and being consistent about sessions, but once we have worked through the problems, the therapy works. It's interesting to me that one of our clinicians, Julie Reville, is very counseling oriented. But she is also adept at blending her counseling with fine behavior shaping skills so that the parent gets great guidance in this operant program as well as great support, emotionally. Barry
