Nice paper. I was thinking about it during a support group meeting a couple nights ago. A first time attendee made the statement that he would cut off an arm if it meant he could talk without stuttering. I’m going to print a copy of your essay for him so he can read the alternative viewpoint. Who knows—you might touch another life.

BTW, no one else offered to sacrifice appendages of any kind. A few of us, however, admitted that we would consider some measures less drastic than severing a limb. For example, I’d submit to a haircut.
