Hi Marjorie,

You ask a very provocative question. Should the gift never be tossed? Hmmm... I had a professor in college say once, "Never say always or never because it'll always get you in trouble."

I loved when you said, "I am satisfied with my client's progress if they are satisfied..." Yes! That's the correct attitude. Every person who stutters is different just as all people are so different from everyone else. So blanket statements are typically wrong, no matter how you slice it.

I used to really look down my nose at stutterers who continue to chase the fluency god year after year. They're spinning their wheels! Don't they have more important things to do with their lives than to become fluent? No one really cares! Well... hmmm... maybe not... All that was from MY viewpoint, not theirs! I live in MY skin and they live in THEIR skin. Who am I to pass judgment on what is important to them? Fluency is not particularly important to ME, but it certainly may be to someone else.

So in direct answer to your question, retaining the gift is MY personal choice. I offer my viewpoint to other people who stutter, but I cannot make that judgement for them. Only they can do that.

Thanks for your very good question, Marjorie.

Best regards,

Russ
