Hello Rebekah,

We've all asked ourselves many times how our lives would have been different if we hadn't stuttered. Oh yes indeed! Unfortunately that's an impossible question to answer - though it causes many flights of fancy. What if I had been born a girl? Or what if I was 7 feet tall and played in the NBA? Gosh, it's interesting to speculate, no doubt, but we're just never gonna find out. So join the crowd and speculate away...! <smile>

Certainly stuttering has shaped who we are, no doubt about that. It's been said that life is not nearly so much about what happens to you, but how you react to it. If that's true - and I strongly believe it is - then we have a choice on how we react to things. We can lay down and die or we can make the very best of what we have. I choose the latter path, and it appears you have too. Wonderful! It's absolutely amazing how good your life can be if you can turn something like stuttering into a major strength. And I KNOW it can be done. I've done it. And I wouldn't trade my life for anyone else's. (Brad Pitt married to Jennifer Aniston maybe, but you talk about your flights of fantasy...! Ha, ha!)

Anyway, you asked how you can become more involved in stuttering organizations. EXCELLENT question! It depends a lot of where you're from. If you live in the United States (and I assume you do), by all means join the National Stuttering Association! The web site is http://www.nsastutter.org/ . That's only the first of many steps. There are also many different and wonderful internet discussion groups and chat sites available. Stutt-L, StutteringChat and Stuttering Support are of three of the best. Stutteringhp right here on the StutteringHomePage is also good, but smaller than the others.

Get back with me and I'll talk with you in more detail about these groups.

Thanks for stopping by Rebekah. Please let me hear back from you. Once you get involved with any of these organizations and meet the wonderful people involved with them, you have no idea how much your life will change!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Russ
