That's a good question, Brynn. Some organizations do sell their mailing lists. The NSA doesn't. I asked their executive director for a copy of their official policy. It is:

Policy for Utilization of the Official Mailing List of the National Stuttering Association

Recognizing the unique resource and opportunity that the National Stuttering Association membership data base holds for those wishing to contact its members for a variety of reasons the NSA Board of Directors has reviewed the central issues surrounding the use of membership data and has issued the following guidelines:

1.That the information provided by or gathered from its members is considered private and for internal use only. Information will not be released without the consent or approval of each individual member.

2.That all requests for information regarding the NSA membership be presented in writing to the national office. Each request shall state the specific purpose for the request.

3.That permission for the use of any NSA data may be granted by the national office and the NSA reserves the right to refuse any and all requests.

4.That the NSA may establish certain fees associated with providing membership data and that any and all costs shall be paid by the release of any data.

5.That certain restrictions may be imposed regarding the specific use of the NSA mailing list. Those restrictions may include but are not limited to a) the use of a third party mailing house b) the information or material be sent directly from the NSA national office or other authorized NSA location c) a limit on the frequency of use by any specific entity.
