Hello Andrea,

I believe there is much to be gained with continued genetic research, especially molecular genetic research. If a gene(s) is found, then attempts to can be made to address the function of the protein(s) the gene(s) codes for. This type of work would greatly facilitate what causes stuttering at the molecular level and would provide targets for treatment. Also, identifying the genetic component of stuttering would facilitate diagnosis in young children and possibly differentiate those who will spontaneously recover for those children who will continue to stutter as adults.

Best of luck with your studies and thank you for your interest, Nathan
