Elsbeth,

Thanks so much for your good luck wishes. We do sometimes wonder if something was working in our favour as we got on so well from virtually day one when we first met in the Stuttering Chat chatroom. I hesitate to call it fate, but it is amazing how things worked out. On a personal note, we both hope you find your soulmate. I never thought I'd find anyone, let alone across the Atlantic on the end of a chatline, but I do think if you take every social opportunity you can, then the odds increase of you finding that special person. I made my stutter an excuse for so many things that were wrong in my life, particularly my inability to find anyone, but it really did boil down to never leaving the comfort zone I'd built around myself for the previous thirty nine years.

My advice to any single people would be to attend as many social occasions as they can, particularly stuttering conferences, chapter meetings or self help groups where you can get used to interacting with other people who are in the same boat as you are. Chatrooms are another useful situation to get used to social interaction - we've both made some great friends at places like Stuttering Chat and Stuttering Support both here in the U.K. and across the pond in the U.S. I know the internet has its downside, but it also opens up a whole new world to so many people who would never get the opportnity to meet in the normal course of events.

Tobe and Chris
