I think the internet is an ideal way of getting to know somebody without the pressure of an early face to face meeting or date. Too often that first impression can be thoroughly misleading, particularly when you stutter - this way you get to know the "whole" person first. Obviously this can be open to abuse, but I think when you're staying within the sphere of the online stuttering groups, it should be reasonably safe. In our case, when we met for the first time, we already "knew" each other and so there wasn't any of the awkwardness you might find on a first date. Basically, if you stay within sensible parameters online, I think it really can open up a whole new world for a lot of people.
