I have been to 2-3 psycholgists. Some of them shared my religious beliefs, some did not. But they all let me use my faith to grow as a person. I think the same could be said of speech therapy. Speech therapy is not just fixing the stuttering-but growing as a person. It's getting under the iceburg. How the person does it is up to them. We as therapists can help facilitate that. I can relate to people of different faiths and have them draw upon their teachings. The Jewish, Muslim and Christian faiths share some of the same sacred scriptures. This we have in common. But it is up to the client to lead.

I think it is only fair to point out that I believe Dick is only talking about specific cases in which this would happen. I didn't hear him say he was opening a "Christian Speech Therapy" service. However our experiences and beliefs shapes us as clinicians.. The client's own experiences and beliefs shape them also. It is for us to discern how to best serve each client.
