Have you ever heard of a guy named Ronald Muirden ? Back in the late 1960s, he devised a speech re-education method for people who stutter. He advocated very moderate breathing and a resonant voice. Interesting parallels.

Did I understand you correctly, a large lungful of air when expired will close the larynx ?
