Hi Dr. Poburka- I found your article to be very thought provoking and useful. One question came to mind when I was reading the section on flawed strategy regarding maintaining subglottic pressure (pg.3,3rd paragraph under Coordinating Respiratory and Laryngeal Systems). In a clinical setting, have you found an effective way to help a client visualize and understand the concept of maintaining normal laryngeal muscle tension while using adequate respiratory support?I think the tendency is for the client to work "too hard" on both levels. I also think it is a difficult concept for a client who is not familiar with the "physics" of respiration and muscle use. Any of your thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated! --Heidi Wolak-Faber
