I agree, Retz - it has to be okay if you've tried your hardest and reached your optimal level of fluency.

One of the things that troubles me is that some people seem to think that those of us who say it's okay to stutter also say it's not okay to be fluent. It's like we meet with parents of 3-year-old kids and say, "Well, you realize your child is doomed to stutter, so you and your kid might just as well accept that right now."

As I've said many times, fluency is the de facto goal of stuttering therapy - we obviously work for fluency. It's when someone has worked as hard as they can and have not achieved fluency that we need something to offer them besides "you're not trying hard enough" or "you're not hitting your targets."
