Not to offend, but....
I recognize whole heartedly that things are beginning to change, but to be honest about the professional "idiots" ..... they vastly outnumber those that get it...Through my eyes, It is one of the major reasons why most adults who stutter have had the negative therapy and communications outcomes they have. It is also one of the major reasons our profession is in the state it is in.
The absolute worst part of all this is that kids who stutter, and their parents, continue, by and large, paying the price of what the "idiots" do. To me, it is criminal....
I cannot use the language I would normally use to describe how I feel about what an "idiot" said/wrote/and communicated to you about your stuttering....it would be much to blue for most who would view it; perhaps even too blue for me to write!! But I do have a phrase name for those professionals that are "idiots", and that is MONSTER MAKER...like the truth that I know.
...(and on a side note....through my somewhat skewered view, there are "potential idiots" among those of us who get it.....:-) )!
We need to educate others...People who stutter are the experts, and all to often we choose silence. The NSA, Friends, and all the self help groups--really need to get after it...and I believe they will. People who stutter aren't dumb; we just stutter!
I am so glad you shared your experience with an "idiot". In my book, u got'em! (and I don't mean revenge!)
