I've wondered if these folks who value fluency above all else have any *friends* who stutter. Seems they are so turned off by disfluent speech that it's hard to imagine that they could have a friend who stutters. On the other hand, it's a great way to learn about *people* who stutter.

You were very lucky, Dorothy, to meet some great PEOPLE at the U. of Iowa. That they happened to stutter is secondary, which you so clearly point out.
