Dr. Quesal: I "enjoyed" reading your article-especially the way you express how you felt about certain events. First, I am surprised that you have run into many SLP's who are "intolerant" of stuttered speech. That was a real eye opener for me, and I hope that becomes less of an issue as we are becoming more educated on the "beneath the surface" aspects. [We are reading Manning's text which repeatedly conveys, chapter to chapter, this dimension of stuttering]. Second, I find that letter pretty shocking, as I am sure many other readers have said this. Finally, I think we have all encountered those people who "deny your reality". My friend went to a Franklin Covey class and said that he learned about "paradigm shifts"--basically looking at things from others' perspective. I think some get comfortable with the way in which they filter the world and that having to see it a different way takes practice and it's not comfortable (it's work). But the pay-off is that your life is enriched. Best wishes to you as you continue to educate those you encounter so that their lives may be enriched. -Nicole Murphy (Graduate Student)
