It is unfortunate that you must tolerate such close-mindedness from colleagues. It is especially disheartening that these people are providing therapy to clients who stutter. I'm with you, I shutter to think about the message that is being sent from therapist to client. What these people don't realize, is you are sending an important message to those who stutter. Stuttering does not have to be a disability! You can have a succesful life without fluency. My philosophy is live and let live. If someone finds their stuttering to be upsetting, and their therapy goal is to be 100% fluent, then good for them. If someone accepts their stuttering and doesn't feel the need to be 100% fluent, then good for them as well. These are personal choices and no one has the right to judge. If everyone fit into a "mold" we would live in an extremely dull world. We are blessed to have such couragous people in this world, like you and the other representatives on this website, to be advocates and role models for individuals who stutter all over the world. Keep up the good work!
