Good question. I believe choosing and measuring the competency of an individual therapist is no different than investigating and selecting any other professional. We ask others for recommendations, talk to people who have used their services, check credentials on the internet or on the wall of their office, and most importantly we meet them. Consumers are becoming more informed and ultimately this is what will measure competency. The SLP who understands the stuttering syndrome and enjoys working with those who stutter will develop a good reputation with both consumers and colleagues.
