Sophia, I know pretty well how helpful parents are in life. I have a weight problem, and the school years were pretty bad at times. My mom and dad were always there for the hour long talks. Your parents are right kids would find something to tease you about. Also, don't worry, I still call my mom and dad on my low self-confidence days.
