I think that we all need to find some things that we excel at doing. However, for our clients, if low self-esteem interferes with communication, we probably need to build self-esteem in communicating. My personal therapeutic model suggests that we provide whatever the clients needs to become a better communicator. If they have poor self-image or poor self-esteem, help in that area. However, if they do not have poor self-image or poor self-esteem, it is not our responsibility to intervene in that area. This may seem obvious, but I see many clinicians that try to fit all PWS into the same program, whatever the client's needs may be. On a related note, I have seen many PWS gain self-esteem in their communication skills through ToastMasters, NSA support groups, etc.

Thanks for your question!
